DSP / Direct Support Professional

About the Role

Provides care and support in a residential setting to individuals by assisting in the development and implementation of individual Support Plans, including spiritual life supports. Helps individuals achieve personal goals and desires, provides interaction and choices for meaningful daily activities, and supports independence in activities of daily living and personal care as needed.

Responsibilities

• Provides daily support, care, and companionship aligned with the individual Support Plan (ISP) with dignity and respect.
• Assists with personal care such as bathing, dressing, bathroom assistance, or housekeeping.
• Prepares and serves meals in accordance with individual diet plans.
• Administers medication and prescriptions as documented under the direction of a nurse.
• Schedules and transports individuals to medical appointments, outings, or errands as requested.
• Supports engaging activities to enhance quality of daily living and align with individuals’ personal goals.
• Ensures general event reporting (GER) and record-keeping align with medical orders, state compliance requirements, abuse reporting, court orders, and AbleLight’s quality and internal procedures.
• Participates in the development and updating of individual support plans by providing insights into daily activities and interests.
• Purchases food and supplies as instructed.
• Maintains a clean, safe, and healthy environment in the residence, ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
• Attends staff meetings and participates in continuing education.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required unless directed by state regulations.
• No prior experience required.
• Program-specific licensure or certification based on state requirements (e.g., Driver’s License with no negative Motor Vehicle Record findings, if applicable).
