Responsibilities
- Ensure the safest possible work environment for our employees through collaborative leadership within our safety and operations departments.
- Administer the driver training curriculum for new drivers and develop new training to address negative trends in driving performance.
- Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state health, safety and environmental laws, regulations, and standards as well as internal best practices.
- Conduct task specific training for new drivers.
- Conduct ride-along coaching and behind-the-wheel observations with new and existing drivers to assess safe driving behaviors, pre-trip and post-trip inspection habits, jobsite awareness, customer interaction, and proper ready-mix delivery procedures; provide real-time coaching and document driver progress, concerns, and follow-up actions.
- Develop and conduct training including new hire, task, and post-accident.
- Serve as a professional role model for drivers by consistently demonstrating safe driving habits, proper equipment care, clean and organized vehicle standards, respectful communication, customer-focused conduct, and full adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Conduct employee one-on-ones. Conduct 30/60/90 day reviews with drivers. Propose solutions to eliminate safety risks found during audits to site management and to the Head of Safety.
- Participate in onsite safety functions such as Toolbox talks and Driver Safety Meetings.
- Ensure that contractor personnel working on any company property follow Silvi policy and procedures.
- Work with Site Managers and the Head of Safety to investigate company accidents, incidents, near misses, and injuries to determine the root cause, responsible parties, and corrective action.
- Monitor compliance with training programs for common processes or equipment to mitigate the risk of accidents due to a lack of training.
- Conduct safety training programs that demonstrate the care and proper use of safety equipment (PPE, fall protection, respiratory protection, etc.).
- Provide reports, analysis, and consistent feedback to the Head of Safety.
- Present summary of safety data and Smart Drive KPI’s weekly to the Head of Safety.
Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience in Redi-Mix Concrete, Cement, Aggregates or similar field as a driver.
- First Aid/CPR Certifications a plus.
- Valid Class A or Class B CDL with current DOT medical card required; must maintain compliance with all applicable DOT/FMCSA requirements, including driver qualification, hours-of-service, pre-trip/post-trip inspection, and drug and alcohol testing requirements.
- Ability to assist in developing, implementing, and coordinating comprehensive health and safety accident prevention programs and training.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, consultative and facilitation skills with all levels of management and staff.
- Ability to handle confidential information.
- Regular travel - between locations and projects.
- Sense of urgency & ability to meet deadlines (self-directed).
- Computer skills proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Ability to provide weekend and night coverage occasionally throughout the year.
- Ability to provide coverage for snowplow.
