About the role

This position maintains and drives various Autocar products, primarily for prototype and test validation. The role also supports prototype and testing manufacturing and assembly.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize, implement, and maintain safety practices and safe driving methods.
  • Execute detailed inspections on vehicles as required.
  • Support engineering, prototype, and testing by developing and maintaining checklists and test routes.
  • Drive Autocar vehicles on closed courses and public roads.
  • Ensure vehicles are safe, maintained, and fueled (or charged) for the next driver.
  • Comply with DOT rules and regulations.
  • Assemble prototype, engineering, validation, and special-build vehicles.
  • Install and validate parts and components on vehicles.
  • Maintain a safe working environment through good housekeeping and adherence to safe work practices.
  • Periodic travel with overnight stays may be required.
  • Support test and evaluation activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Class A CDL with DOT medical card and certification is preferred; Class B CDL will be considered depending on experience and certifications.
  • One to two years of related experience and/or training.
  • Heavy truck vehicle product knowledge is a plus.
  • Fabrication knowledge and process is desirable.
  • Welding experience is a plus.
  • Truck manufacturing build/process experience is desirable.
  • Must pass applicable DOT background and motor vehicle records screenings.
  • Proficient in English (reading, speaking, and writing).
  • Basic shop math skills are required; ability to create concept prints for parts during prototyping is desirable.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and schematics is desirable.
  • Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office is an advantage.

Physical Requirements

  • Medically qualified for CDL through DOT Physical Exam.
  • Capable of wearing task-specific personal protective equipment, including dust masks, air-purifying respirators, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, and ear protection.
  • Capable of meeting OSHA standards for manual lifting guidelines.
  • Required to stand, walk, use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch as necessary for job activities.
  • Ability to drive, stand, and/or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and temperatures.

Work Environment

The role occasionally exposes the employee to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
