Driver (On Call)

About the role

We are seeking a customer-focused shuttle bus driver to support a workforce of almost 9,000 staff by transporting APL team members between our Main, South, and Montpelier campuses. This is a temporary (on-call) position, working intermittently for special events and peak periods, with hours ranging from 7:15 AM to 6:15 PM and a maximum of 29 hours scheduled per week.

Responsibilities

• Drive APL vehicles to transport passengers and equipment internally and externally on APL campuses.
• Undergo a motor vehicle record check if selected.
• Drive special bus tours for staff and APL sponsors, and chauffeur Lab guests and VIPs to/from designated areas.
• Inspect and fuel buses, and record vehicle issues and concerns in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal and State Highway Administration (FSHA) regulations.
• Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and operational standards of vehicles driven.
• Assist in other areas of the group as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• CDL Class A or B with a passenger endorsement (no points).
• Current DOT medical card; compliance with DOT random drug and alcohol testing.
• Capability to fuel, clean, and maintain buses and APL-owned vehicles.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to work independently and within a team.
• Ability to drive for a minimum of 3 hours without breaks and flexibility to work an 8-hour daily schedule with occasional extended shifts.
• Availability to work on an on-call basis.
• US Citizenship or permanent resident status, as required to access APL’s facilities and networks.

Pay

Hourly rate ranges from $20.05 to $33.40.
