This position is located in Washington DC, Maryland or Virginia.
Job Overview
The Driver operates various types of Government-furnished motor vehicles to transport time-sensitive items to multiple destinations within the Washington metropolitan area. The Driver also transports supplies, furniture, equipment, and similar materials as needed. This role requires safe driving practices, accuracy in handling mail and deliveries, adherence to established routes and distribution schedules, and professional interaction with others.
Responsibilities
- Operate Government-furnished vehicles to transport time-sensitive materials to designated locations across the Washington metropolitan area.
- Transfer supplies, furniture, equipment, and similar items as required.
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring correct routing, accuracy, and proper processing.
- Follow established distribution schedules and delivery routes.
- Maintain clear, neat, and accurate printed documentation as required.
- Pay close attention to detail when verifying addresses, delivery items, instructions, and routing.
- Communicate effectively with staff, customers, and supervisors regarding delivery needs and changes.
- Work cooperatively with others to support smooth and timely transport operations.
- Ensure safe operation of vehicles at all times.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid State operator’s permit appropriate for the type of vehicle being operated.
- Proven safe driving record verified through the National Driver Register or equivalent documentation (Contractor must provide proof).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Good reading skills and strong verbal communication abilities.
- Clear, neat printing skills for documenting deliveries and logs.
- General familiarity with delivery and distribution schedules, routes, and time-sensitive transport procedures.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work well with others and maintain professional interaction with staff and customers.
