About the role

Drive a white bus/van, yellow mini bus, or other motorized vehicle to transport students.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the safe loading and unloading of students, including operation of specialized equipment for students with special needs (car seats, seat belts, etc.).
  • Drives a white bus/van, yellow mini bus, or other motorized vehicle to transport students to schools, field trips, and special events.
  • Maintains attendance records, seating charts, disciplinary documentation, and updated student information; communicates via two-way radio to dispatch, parents, students, administrators, and others.
  • Monitors student behavior to ensure proper conduct and adherence to disciplinary controls.
  • Performs pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure operating conditions meet Department of Transportation standards and safety requirements.
  • Conducts routine cleaning, maintenance, and refueling activities; maintains fuel logs and reports vehicle defects promptly.
  • Transports students according to established routing sheets and updates routes periodically.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D., or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possession of a valid Arizona Driver’s License for 5 years.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications within 30 days of employment.
  • Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • DPS Certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
  • Must pass Department of Public Safety physical performance tests every two years, including lifting 30 pounds from the ground to the vehicle floor and dragging 125 pounds.
  • Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly.
  • May be subjected to fumes, odors, and extreme temperatures.

Return-to-work retirees will have an hourly rate approximately 9% lower than listed without falling below minimum wage.
