Driver
About the role
As a Driver with Multnomah County’s Distribution Services team, you play a vital role as an ambassador of service. You will oversee the pickup, delivery, and sorting of essential goods—including paper, records, medical items, and mail—across various County locations. Using a mix of fixed and dispatched routes, you'll collaborate with fellow drivers to optimize route efficiency and provide top-notch service to our community.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate various motor vehicles and material handling equipment to pick up, deliver, and sort items across County facilities (e.g., mail, medical/dental items, archives, e-waste, and equipment).
- Partner with team members to adjust routes for optimal efficiency, handle customer requests, and coordinate vehicle maintenance with Fleet Services.
- Determine appropriate mail classes and operate postage metering machines to process outgoing domestic and international mail and packages. Ensure proper account billing and USPS compliance.
- Advise internal customers on cost-effective postage classes and mail design.
- Assist in supply order fulfillment, maintain inventories of operational materials, and support Records Center activities such as retrieving records.
Operationally Essential Position: Employees who have been designated as operationally essential (“Essential”) are required to report for duty regardless of facility closure or curtailment of some or all County operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in a role requiring strong customer service, clear communication with diverse colleagues and public partners.
- Physical ability to:
- Lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs. throughout the workday.
- Remain in a seated position for prolonged periods while operating delivery vehicles or equipment.
- Perform repetitive physical tasks, including bending, stooping, reaching, and carrying items.
- Safely operate delivery vehicles (such as vans, box trucks, or similar) and material-handling equipment.
- Pass multiple criminal background checks, including fingerprinting through the CJIS systems.
- Possess a valid driver's license and a safe driving record to operate County motorized vehicles.
- Submit a REQUIRED cover letter explaining how you meet the physical demands of the job and describing your customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Google Suite.
- Experience with distribution and shipping.
- Three years of demonstrated customer service experience.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to change.

Pay
$23.93 - $29.43 per hour.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday - Friday Day Shift. There is flexibility with the start and end times, which will be discussed with the hiring manager.
