About the Role

The Residential Driver is responsible for safely operating a collection truck and providing prompt, courteous, and complete waste removal services for customers. This role ensures vehicle compliance with company safety standards, adheres to all company, state, and federal regulations, and completes daily vehicle condition reports to maintain operational readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete pre- and post-operation inspections of the vehicle to ensure proper working order of tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls.
  • Safely operate the truck along designated routes and to disposal sites, following route sheets and servicing each customer as assigned.
  • Operate manual and/or automatic controls to lift and load refuse, operate the compactor, and dispose of collected material at designated facilities.
  • Interact courteously with customers, dispatchers, and others to ensure timely and professional service.
  • Identify and tag unsatisfactory waste containers according to departmental procedures.
  • Monitor waste for unacceptable materials and clean areas around accidental spills, adhering to safety standards.
  • Continuously monitor vehicle condition, clean waste from the packer blade and truck body, and minimize downtime.
  • Complete required route/productivity sheets, Vehicle Condition Reports, and other necessary reports.
  • Maintain adherence to productivity standards to ensure efficient and timely customer service.
  • Provide excellent customer service, acting professionally and cooperatively toward customers and co-workers.
  • Manage time effectively to complete assigned responsibilities safely and efficiently.
  • Follow through on challenges, adhere to work schedules, and comply with company policies and safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to drive a pickup truck pulling a utility trailer.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s License with air brakes endorsement.
  • Two years of prior experience driving heavy commercial trucks.
  • Excellent reading and writing skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and maintain attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands

Light lifting (50-100 pounds) in a shop environment.

Work Environment

Warehouse/shop environment.
