Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe transporting and timely arrival of products to our customers and other store locations.
  • Drive, route sequencing, order verification, loading and unloading orders into company/customer vehicles.
  • Perform return service, share customer feedback, and maintain, upkeep, and repair company vehicles and warehouse equipment.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license at all times and meet all state and federal driving regulations.
  • Maintain positive customer relationships by providing exceptional service, including accurate and timely delivery of products.
  • Serve as a key field contact for gathering accurate customer service and delivery expectations.
  • Safely operate company vehicles and equipment consistent with DOT, state, federal, and company standards.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the inside of the truck, cab, box, and all assigned work areas.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on assigned vehicle(s)/equipment; report defects or repair needs to supervisor promptly.
  • Load and unload trucks; check and verify deliveries against sales and transfer orders.
  • Prepare routes and follow schedules and deadlines for delivery, shipping, receiving, and other related tasks.
  • Drive straight body vehicles, including box trucks, to deliver supplies and equipment to customer’s place of business, job sites, or other Johnstone store locations.
  • Maintain telephone or radio contact with supervisor to receive expedited delivery instructions, using communication methods safely and in accordance with requirements.
  • Immediately communicate delivery, traffic, safety, and customer issues to supervisor.
  • Record sales and/or delivery information as applicable; complete manifests with pictures, signatures, and any returns via iPad or manual completion.
  • Return vehicle at end of day, ensuring it is fully fueled; complete monthly driver log and associated paperwork; secure the vehicle.
  • Return gas receipts, monies, vehicle inspection logs, and any other necessary paperwork.
  • Share day-to-day warehouse operations responsibilities as a material handler when not driving.
  • May be assigned on-site inventory-related responsibilities at customer sites.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • 1+ years of truck driving experience (26 ft vehicle or larger) or 1 year operating Johnstone equipment/vehicles under supervision; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6+ months of experience in a warehouse and/or distribution facility, preferably in HVAC/R or related field (preferred).
  • Experience with a picker, RF scanner, and inventory management systems (preferred).
  • Experience driving a forklift (preferred).
  • Knowledge of HVAC wholesale industry, principles, and practices (preferred).
  • Previous experience with OSHA and safety regulations and procedures (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record acceptable to the company; must remain eligible to drive a commercial motor vehicle under applicable state and federal laws and FMCSA regulations.
  • CDL preferred.
  • Forklift certification preferred.

Skills

  • Ability to utilize necessary technology, including GPS, mobile Proof of Delivery (POD) devices, RF equipment, and ERP software.
  • Ability to read maps and mapping applications accurately.
  • Ability to read, add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to work safely in all job tasks.
  • Skill in operating delivery vehicles and power equipment, including forklift, pallet jack, and cherry picker; ability to operate a lift gate safely and effectively.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and maneuver large/heavy products or pieces of equipment while working within established safety guidelines.
  • Familiarity with warehouse or distribution center management systems and order picking processes.
  • Ability to perform all duties of a Material Handler, including order filling, stock replenishment, will call, and inventory cycle counting.
  • Ability to follow instructions and procedures.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete routine paperwork.
  • Ability to work in a team-based environment.
  • Strong customer service skills; ability to demonstrate tact and diplomacy in dealing with others and maintain relationships.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • English proficiency (written and spoken) is a core requirement for this position.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, and walk on a concrete floor for much of the workday.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently required to lift and carry and/or move up to 50 pounds; may lift more weight with mechanical assistance or team members.
  • For driving duties, required to sit for long periods and may experience bouncing and vibration.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear.
  • Special vision requirements include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and color vision.
