The Disability Rights Fund (DRF) is a global organization dedicated to supporting disability rights movements in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and the Caribbean. DRF empowers organizations led by people with disabilities to advocate for equal rights and inclusion, with a focus on human rights rather than charity.

About The Disability Rights Fund

Since 2008, DRF has awarded $60.8 million to 636 organizations in 62 countries, training 7500+ activists, advancing 379 inclusive laws, policies, and programs, and submitting 100+ UN reports. DRF is the only global funder dedicated solely to disability rights, fostering community-led solutions and ensuring representation of persons with disabilities in leadership roles.

Board Membership

The DRF Board of Directors oversees strategic direction, financial oversight, and ensures ethical conduct. It includes at least 50% persons with disabilities and representatives from various regions and countries where DRF operates. Board meetings occur 4-6 times per year, with an annual in-person meeting.

Requirements

  • Financial Expertise: Nonprofit financial management, GAAP accounting, audit review, investment strategy
  • Legal Expertise: Nonprofit law, governance, IRS compliance for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) entities, international grantmaking
  • Fundraising Expertise: Development strategy, donor relations, philanthropy, resource mobilization
  • Rights Advocate: Experience in Disability Rights preferred, but open to others working and advocating within other movements, particularly in the Global South
  • Other: Passionate about our mission and work

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to provide a letter of intent, followed by a formal interview with the Governance Committee. Final candidates are recommended to the full Board for approval. No renumeration is provided for this role.
