Position Summary
The Engineering Drafter plays a key role in supporting manufacturing operations by creating and maintaining accurate CAD models and engineering drawings. This position works closely with the shop manager and fabricators to translate design intent into detailed, production-ready documentation.Key Responsibilities
- Translate rough dimensional sketches and OE components into fabrication drawings
- Maintain strict revision control and document updates
- Cook up coordination with project managers and production teams
- Ensure accuracy and constructability of all drawings
- Generate BOMs
- Create, revise, and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings
- Ensure drawings comply with company standards and manufacturing capabilities
- Manage and execute engineering change requests (ECRs), including:
- Updating CAD models, drawings, and BOMs
- Tracking implementation and ensuring timely completion
- Identify opportunities for drawing standardization, process improvement, and cost reduction
Required Qualifications
- Average degree or technical diploma in Drafting, Engineering Technology, related field, or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
- Understanding of 2D drawings, dimensioning, and tolerancing principles
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and completeness
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
- Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineering, management and fabricators.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in an engineering drafting or design support role, preferably in metal fabrication.
- Experience with sheet metal, weldments, mechanical assemblies
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as fabrication, forming, and assembly
