Drafter

About the role

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Drafter to join the Drafting team at the Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC), the core of U.S. nuclear research and development. MFC hosts a diverse array of facilities designed for remote work on highly irradiated fuels and materials, enabling the design, fabrication, testing, and analysis of new fuel ideas. The team collaborates with universities, industry partners, other national laboratories, international research organizations, and federal agencies.

The position operates on a 4x10 schedule, with every Friday off.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complex new drawings and perform drawing changes consistent with company and nationally recognized procedures and standards, including 2D line work and 3D modeling.
• Assist in determining drawing elements such as dimensions, part/component selection, tolerance, and design and process parameters.
• Evaluate design input from project engineers while collaborating with design engineers.
• Perform mathematical calculations (e.g., geometric, tolerance stack-up calculations).
• Work with design engineers to specify parts, assemblies, and installation.
• Contribute design modification ideas to improve product quality or facilitate construction/fabrication.
• Provide field/as-built documentation support.
• Maintain a working knowledge of Creo, AutoCAD, Revit, and other modeling software.
• Occasionally collaborate with professionals outside of the home organization.
• Report progress to project and line management as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Level 4: 6 years of related experience.
• Level 5: More than 6 years of related experience.
• Relevant experience includes HS CAD classes, college CAD classes, machine shop experience, or experience reading drawings in the construction industry or related fields.

The ideal candidate will possess a vocational certificate or related experience.

Skills

• Proficiency in Creo, AutoCAD, Revit, and other modeling software.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations (e.g., geometric, tolerance stack-up).
• Strong collaboration skills with engineers across disciplines.
• Hand/finger dexterity for keyboarding, handling materials, and manipulating tools.
• Ability to work in both office and field environments, including construction sites.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms.
• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds with assistance.
• Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform essential functions and interact with the public.
• May be exposed to discomforts associated with constant monitoring of computer video display screens.
• Intermittent exposure to stress due to human behavior and various responsibilities.

Pay

Level 4: $36.08/hr - $59.52/hr

Level 5: $41.42/hr - $70.41/hr

Compensation decisions are based on education, relevant experience, and other credentials. This is a multi-level posting, and placement will depend on the depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.

Schedule

4x10 schedule (four 10-hour days) with every Friday off.
