Primary Duties / Responsibilities
- The keeping of a safe navigational watch as Watch Officer, as directed by the Captain / Chief Officer and guided by applicable company procedures and standing orders.
- The keeping of a safe port / cargo watch as Watch Officer as directed by the Captain / Chief Officer.
- Ensuring that all cargo is secured, and cargo transfers are organized correctly, if required by the Captain / Chief Officer.
- Ensuring that the Captain or Chief Officer is informed immediately of any condition or incident that arises as per standing instruction.
- Ensuring that no major action will be undertaken or executed without informing the Captain or Chief Officer or, where applicable, the Superintendent and Chief Engineer.
- Ensuring that all navigational charts and publications are corrected up-to-date and navigational warnings displayed, if so delegated by the Captain.
- Ensuring that all navigational equipment is functioning correctly and reporting equipment defects.
- Ensuring that all GMDSS communication equipment is functioning correctly and reporting any defects.
- Performing daily, weekly and monthly checks and maintaining the GMDSS logbook.
- Performing emergency duties in accordance with the vessel's Muster List / Station Bill.
- Assisting with the administration and application of Helix Safety Systems as required.
- Acting as DP Operator or stand-by DP Operator as directed by the Captain.
- Ensuring that all relevant parties are kept fully informed of vessel movements and activities.
- Deploying DP reference systems as required by the operation in hand.
- Maintaining a personal log of his DP experience which is to be approved by the Captain.
- Ensuring that DP logbooks and checklists are correctly completed.
- Reporting and recording of DP equipment defects and DP incidents.
- Complete other duties and/or projects as required and assigned by management.
Qualifications
- The OOW acting as SDPO or DPO shall be, as a minimum, qualified in accordance with STCW 95 Regulation II/1 and hold a DP Operator's Certificate, issued by the Nautical Institute.

- Minimum 2 years of experience as 1st Officer or 2nd Officer on a DP operated pipelay or construction vessel.
- Fluent in both verbal and written English.
- Computer literate.
Special Requirements

- In their role as Officer of the Watch , they have the authority to take any action necessary (or stop any activity) in the first instance (in the absence of the Captain / Chief Officer) to ensure the safety of the vessel, personnel, and the protection of the marine environment.
Decision Making
The Officer of the Watch (Deck) coordinates with the Captain / Chief Officer, Officer of the Watch (Engineer), or any other person necessary for the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
