About the role
The DOT Manager will lead and oversee all Department of Transportation (DOT) compliance and fleet regulatory requirements across our operations. This role is critical to ensuring the company maintains full compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations while supporting safe, efficient field operations across multiple project sites.
Responsibilities
- Oversight and compliance with all DOT regulations, including FMCSA requirements, across all operating regions
- Management of driver qualification files (DQFs), ensuring accuracy, completeness, and ongoing compliance
- Administration and monitoring of Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and electronic logging devices (ELDs)
- Leadership of DOT audits and inspections, including preparation, response, and corrective action plans
- Development, implementation, and maintenance of DOT-related policies, procedures, and training programs
- Collaboration with Safety and Operations teams to promote a strong culture of compliance and safe driving practices
- Tracking and reporting of key compliance metrics, violations, and trends to leadership
- Management of drug and alcohol testing programs in accordance with DOT regulations
- Overseeing vehicle registration, licensing (IRP), and fuel tax reporting (IFTA) requirements
- Investigation of incidents related to DOT compliance and support of corrective/preventive actions
- Serving as the primary point of contact for regulatory agencies and external auditors
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Safety, Transportation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in DOT compliance, fleet management, or transportation safety
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, HOS rules, driver qualification standards, and audit processes
- Designated Employer Representative (DER) certification required
- Experience managing DOT drug and alcohol testing programs and related compliance requirements preferred
- Experience managing multi-state or large-scale fleet operations preferred
- Familiarity with ELD systems, fleet management software, and compliance tracking tools
- Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to interpret regulations and translate them into practical business processes
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence across teams
- Proven ability to manage audits, resolve compliance issues, and implement process improvements
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a commitment to safety and operational excellence
