Dosimetrist (Certified) - Full Time - Jeff Hwy

About the Role

This position generates radiation dose distributions and calculations for patients undergoing radiation therapy and checks all treatment records of patients under treatment on a weekly basis. Under general supervision, the role devises special compensator fabrication and multileaf collimator (MLC) treatment shields. It also coordinates all aspects of patient flow relative to treatment planning, including simulation and computed tomography (CT) tumor localization.

Responsibilities

• Performs patient treatment planning.
• Documents dosimetry.
• Performs special procedures such as radioactive implants.
• Manages performance improvement.
• Conducts Aria input.
• Exhibits flexibility in scheduling and staffing practices to accommodate the needs of the department.
• Takes responsibility for professional development, maintaining required clinical knowledge, technical skills, and credentials/age-specific competency.
• Complies with OSHA guidelines for employees working with block casting materials.
• Other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited program in medical dosimetry, or completion of an accredited program in Radiation Therapy Technology.
• 1 year of experience as a full-time medical dosimetrist, including experience in and knowledge of treatment planning computers and computer equipment used in the treatment of radiation oncology patients (e.g., record and verify systems, linear accelerators).

Qualifications

• Registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Certification in Medical Dosimetry by the American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD).
• Licensure from the State of Louisiana.

• Computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
• Proficiency with Windows-style applications, keyboard, and various software programs specific to the role.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and professionally.

• Good manual dexterity for working with materials such as plaster, metal alloys, and immobilization devices.

Physical and Environmental Demands

The physical essential functions of this job include frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally exerting up to 100 pounds of force.
