Responsibilities

• Make recommendations to assist physician with diagnosis.
• Schedule nuclear medicine tests as needed and check patient records for pertinent information.
• Prepare patients for exams, administer radioactive isotopes, and transfer patients to examining tables.
• Scan patients, ensure proper settings on gamma camera, and measure radioactive dosage with a dose calibrator.
• Document procedures and set up machinery for scans, including changing collimators.
• Select and operate equipment, choosing proper technical factors on an individual patient basis.
• Survey daily shipments of radioactive material and record isotopes in a dose management system.
• Perform daily surveys and weekly wipe tests.
• Assist the Lead Technologist in maintaining the policy/procedure manual.
• Handle all computer work related to patient exams and perform quality control on cameras as suggested by the manufacturer.
• Participate in Emergency Call on a rotational basis.
• Provide age-appropriate care, primarily for adults and geriatric patients, with occasional care for adolescents, children, infants, and neonates.
• Identify problems, communicate them to the immediate supervisor, and offer solutions as appropriate.
• Lift, move, and transport patients via cart, wheelchair, or other devices, positioning them as needed for procedures.
• Work in the front office/file room as needed.
• Wear film badges/ring badges and use time, distance, and shielding to minimize radiation exposure.
• Transport patients from patient rooms, Surgery Center, ESD, and other care areas, returning them afterward.
• Participate in department performance improvement activities and attend required training.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Maintain licensure by the State of Ohio, Department of Health.
• Graduate of an approved Nuclear Medicine program with the ability to meet and maintain requirements for registry by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or CNMT.
• Experience in Nuclear Medicine desired.
• Comply with all Service Excellence, Quality, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
• Current CPR certification, with bi-annual recertification required.
• Ability to communicate effectively with management, physicians, co-workers, and patients.
• Proper use of body mechanics.
• Ability to push, pull, and/or lift patients from carts, wheelchairs, or other transport devices onto imaging tables.
