Company Description Roof Above is an interfaith organization committed to ending homelessness in the Charlotte, NC area, one life at a time. The organization operates a Day Services Center that provides meals, basic services, essential supplies, and a key access point for shelter and housing resources. Roof Above also supports people experiencing homelessness through a Street Outreach team, three men’s shelters, the seasonal Room in the Inn emergency winter shelter program, and multiple housing locations and programs. Community members can learn more, volunteer, or donate by visiting roofabove.org.Role Description The Donor Relations Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Charlotte, NC, responsible for cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with individual donors, faith communities, corporations, and other partners who support Roof Above’s mission. Day-to-day responsibilities include responding to donor inquiries, acknowledging and processing contributions, preparing donor communications, and supporting annual giving campaigns and special initiatives. This role tracks donor engagement, maintains accurate records in the donor database, and coordinates stewardship activities such as thank-you calls, emails, letters, and impact reports. The Donor Relations Specialist collaborates with fundraising, communications, and program teams to align donor messaging with organizational priorities and events, while identifying opportunities to deepen donor involvement. The position also assists in planning donor recognition events and presentations, and ensures that all interactions reflect Roof Above’s values of dignity, respect, and community.Qualifications Strong Customer Service skills with a commitment to responsive, respectful, and compassionate support for donors and community partners.Excellent Communication abilities, including clear writing, active listening, and professional verbal and interpersonal skills across diverse audiences.Knowledge of Annual Giving practices, including campaign support, donor segmentation, and basic fundraising principles.Understanding of Philanthropy and Donor Relations, with skills in donor stewardship, relationship-building, and appreciation activities.Experience using CRM or donor database systems, with attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reporting.Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects, deadlines, and donor interactions in a fast-paced environment.Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and independently with minimal supervision.Commitment to Roof Above’s mission and values, and comfort engaging with issues related to homelessness and social justice.Preferred: Experience in nonprofit fundraising or development, especially in human services; bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business) or equivalent relevant experience.
