Donor Relations Coordinator
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or AA degree preferred
Experience can substitute for education on a 2:1 ratio
HS Diploma or GED required
Experience in administrative support, customer service, revenue generation, and written communication with individual, corporate and foundation donors
Non-profit development experience strongly preferred, with knowledge of donor relations
Ability to work as a team member, and as the first point of contact for individual donors
Extensive skills in multi-tasking, time management, project management, and research
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Able to produce a high volume of work in a timely manner
Knowledge of office procedures and equipment
Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Canva
Capacity to learn donor engagement platforms/software
Able to type 60-70 wpm
A pleasant and professional demeanor when interacting with all stakeholders
Able to pass a criminal background check
Responsibilities
- Provides year-round stewardship and engagement of a portfolio of individual donors as identified by the Associate Director of Development.
- Carries a caseload of approximately 600 mid-level donors that fluctuate based on donor giving activity and their reassignment to Donor Relations Directors.
- Cultivates relationships by updating, appreciating, and asking donors to deepen their partnership with The Salvation Army, including solicitation of gifts.
- Creates a written monthly and yearly strategy plan of donor touches to ensure that all donors on caseload receive (at least) quarterly communications.
- Executes strategy through phone, email, mail, social media and customized notes/correspondence.
- Engages in occasional face-to-face communication with giving prospects/donors on a limited number of accounts that qualify at the highest level within the tier.
- Develops collateral materials that tell the programmatic story of Salvation Army service to encourage giving and align with donor/prospect interest.
- Captures new information regarding donor’s interests, relationships, life events, and capacity for philanthropic giving; enters information into the donor’s database record.
- Establishes yearly caseload goal based on previous year’s income and expected lift.
- Identifies triggers regarding donors with high-capacity potential for referral to leadership.
- Steward donors who have reached their maximum giving potential.
- Manages all office systems related to DRC duties, including maintaining updated database donor files, tracking spreadsheets, correspondence, and gift acknowledgments, etc., in keeping with department policies and procedures.
- Documents all donor interactions through database contact reports and according to established business practices.
- Carries out any office and computer-related tasks important to fulfilling the goals of the position.
- Facilitates the reassignment of mid-level donors to Donor Relations Directors caseload and vice versa based on donor giving activity.
- Coordinates and executes annual Mid-Level revenue-generating and engagement calling campaigns, including but not limited to the ‘Be the Match’ campaign, Annual Survey and other mid-level direct marketing initiatives.
- Coordinates and executes thank you calls and handwritten notes to caseload and non-caseload $1k+ gift donors within 48 hours of gift posting.
- Execute the new donor welcome program for $1k+ gift donors.
- Attends departmental meetings and monthly THQ Mid-Level meetings.
- Maintains a professional, can-do attitude and can manage unanticipated changes that have tight turnaround times by adjusting schedules for other projects and clearly communicating those changes to stakeholders and team members.
- Assists the Development team during emergency needs and Holiday/Seasonal activities.
- Aids in the planning and execution of small donor engagement events.
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position of Donor Relations Coordinator.
