Job Summary

This role is responsible for determining donor eligibility, plasma collection, and product processing while maintaining compliance.

Ensures Compliance

  • Maintains total operation compliance with state and federal regulations (e.g. FDA approved Standard Operating Procedures, OSHA, CLIA, and GMP)
  • Maintains a high level of customer service and positive donor experience in line with company values and culture
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area to ensure a clean and professional environment
  • Stocks and maintains an orderly work area with sufficient supplies to meet production demands
  • Maintains Donor Center equipment based on Standard Operating Procedures and applicable manufacturer instructions
  • Maintains Donor confidentiality based on company policy
  • Maintains complete and accurate record keeping per company’s Standard Operating Procedures
  • Cleans any blood or plasma spills and performs proper procedure for disposition of biohazardous waste

Mentoring and Training

  • Mentors junior Donor Center Technicians, driving training efficiencies to ensure timeliness and compliance
  • Partners with Quality Assurance on overall center performance
  • Trains as QA-Backup and/or NexSys Technician and performs related duties as required by business need

Equipment and Product Management

  • Maintains cleanliness and operational readiness of equipment
  • Monitors donor conditions, employs techniques to ensure donor comfort, safety, and the quality of plasma product
  • Maintains proper ratio to ensure donor safety and quality of product
  • Operates automated plasmapheresis machines, responds to donor adverse events, and documents exceptions
  • Performs donor vitals evaluation, finger stick for Microhematocrit and Total Protein determination, registers applicant donors, sets up and prepares equipment and disposable supplies, disconnects donors after plasmapheresis, and prepares product and samples for shipments
  • Maintains proper storage of plasma product and samples in walk-in storage freezer
  • Monitors and records freezer and refrigerator temperatures, informs appropriate personnel of malfunctioning equipment, and records variances

Physical Requirements

  • Utilize all required and appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty-five (35) pounds
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens
  • Ability to view video display terminal less than 18” away from face for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in an environment with a temperature of -40C or colder for extended periods
  • Occasional exposure to and handling of dry ice
  • Ability to perform precise tasks that require repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for diagnostic tests
  • Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication
  • Ability to work day and evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts on a frequent basis and be punctual
  • Ability to use a computer and other office equipment
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to focus and concentrate on tasks for extended periods
  • Ability to navigate the office environment safely, including stairs and elevators (if applicable)
  • Ability to travel up to 20% via airplane and vehicle (if applicable)
