About the role

JLGB delivers a faith-sensitive, kosher The Duke of Edinburgh's Award programme, supporting around 1,000 young people each year to achieve their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. As a volunteer, you’ll help young people gain skills, build confidence, and complete one of the UK’s most respected youth awards.

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Support and supervise groups of young people aged 14–18
  • Camp overnight during two- or three-day expeditions
  • Encourage, motivate, and guide participants to help them succeed
  • Ensure JLGB safeguarding, safety policies, and DofE standards are upheld

Essential

  • Experience working with young people (formal or informal)
  • Strong communication skills with both adults and young people
  • Reliable, organised, and comfortable planning or leading small groups
  • Calm, supportive approach to decision-making and problem-solving
  • Willingness to complete an Enhanced DBS check (facilitated by JLGB)

Desirable

  • Outdoor leadership experience or qualifications
  • Previous involvement in DofE or youth expeditions
  • Full UK driving licence is helpful for expedition support
