About the role
This position supports the imaging and birth registration processes at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission and South Overland Park.
Responsibilities
- Ensures all pages have the appropriate patient identification and form identification barcode.
- Reviews the paper record against the electronic document to verify image quality and identify missing documents.
- Verifies and validates image/document errors and makes necessary changes as needed.
- Utilizes designated discharge log on units to verify receipt of all records.
- Processes all loose documents in a timely manner.
- Retrieves and scans discharged records from all units, outpatient departments, and emergency departments, and prepares them for transport (may be required to travel to other facilities in the division).
- Performs near-time scanning of all active and discharge patient records on nursing units.
- Maintains productivity and quality levels in accordance with current standards.
- Communicates any record discrepancies or irregularities to leadership.
- Adheres to the defined schedule and expectations as determined by health information management.
- Maintains the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Communicates effectively with nursing and ancillary staff regarding inquiries on the location of records and/or missing records.
Requirements
- Intermediate computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of associates, management, physicians, patients and their families, and other customers.
- Critical thinking and detailed work skills.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain focus.
- Ability to retain information and maintain a high level of accuracy.
- Ability to set priorities and exercise independent judgment.
- Proven record of providing excellent customer service & ability to contribute to team goals.
- Ability to understand and prepare complex written materials, including spelling and grammar.
- Maintains the highest level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently in an onsite role.
- Strong emphasis on organizational skills and strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
- Knowledgeable of security and confidentiality requirements pertaining to protected health information.
Qualifications
- High School Grad or Equiv.
- Technical/Vocational School preferred.
- Field Of Study in business, healthcare, or related field, with some emphasis in typing, filing, medical terminology and/or previous experience in HIM or general office procedures.
