About the role

This role is responsible for the day-to-day execution of cost accounting operations, inventory valuation, and manufacturing financial reporting. This role ensures accurate product costing, monitors inventory transactions, analyzes manufacturing variances, and supports operational leadership with financial insights to improve profitability and cost control.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Own the month-end close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals.
  • Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts within Epicor ERP, ensuring accuracy and proper classification of all transactions.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements and supporting schedules for Controller review.
  • Ensure close activities are completed on schedule; identify and resolve bottlenecks proactively.
  • Maintain and improve close checklists, reconciliation templates, and supporting documentation.
  • Manage all cost accounting activities for manufacturing operations including review of variances.
  • Maintain standard cost structures, bills of materials (BOM), and routing costs within Epicor as well as ensuring the timely opening and closing of work orders.
  • Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances and provide explanations to management.
  • Monitor cost of goods sold (COGS) and product margins.
  • Conduct product cost analysis and profitability reporting.
  • Identify and support cost reduction initiatives and operational efficiency improvements.
  • Oversight Oversee AP and AR functions, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, payments, and collections.
  • Review and approve AP disbursements and vendor payment runs.
  • Monitor AR aging and support collections efforts; provide analysis of outstanding balances to leadership.
  • Ensure proper three-way matching, purchase order compliance, and expense coding across AP transactions.
  • Identify and implement process improvements in AP/AR workflows to improve efficiency and controls.
  • Prepare monthly manufacturing cost reports and variance analysis.
  • Manage inventory valuation reporting and reconciliation.
  • Support month-end and year-end close activities related to inventory and cost accounting.
  • Aid in internal and external audits related to cost and inventory controls.
  • Develop management reports and dashboards for operational performance.
  • Utilize Epicor ERP for cost tracking, inventory management, and financial reporting.
  • Maintain item costing, cost rollups, and inventory costing structures in Epicor.
  • Ensure accurate integration between manufacturing, inventory, and financial modules.
  • Develop and maintain Epicor financial and cost reports for leadership.
  • Maintain ownership and oversight of cost accounting operations for manufacturing, including standard cost structures, bills of materials (BOM), and routing costs within Epicor.
  • Analyze material, labor, and overhead variances; provide meaningful explanations and recommendations to operations management.
  • Monitor cost of goods sold (COGS), product margins, and profitability at the product and program level.
  • Ensure timely opening and closing of work orders; review and approve manufacturing transactions within Epicor.
  • Conduct product cost analysis and support pricing decisions with cost modeling and margin analysis.
  • Identify and champion cost reduction initiatives and operational efficiency improvements in partnership with operations and supply chain teams.
  • Oversee inventory accounting and valuation within Epicor ERP, including receipts, transfers, adjustments, and scrap transactions.
  • Reconcile inventory subledger to the general ledger; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Lead physical inventory counts and cycle count programs across all company locations.
  • Monitor obsolete, slow-moving, and excess inventory; provide financial analysis and reserve recommendations.
  • Ensure accurate application of costing methods (standard costing, FIFO, etc.) consistent with company policy.
  • Review and approve inventory adjustments and write-offs.
  • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process, with primary ownership of manufacturing costs, inventory, and COGS projections.
  • Provide variance analysis comparing actual results to budget and forecast.
  • Partner with operations, supply chain, and program management teams to develop accurate cost assumptions for new programs and products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Epicor ERP experience required.
  • Advanced competency in Excel required.
  • Experience managing inventory accounting and inventory account controls required.
