About the Role
The Simulation Specialist plays an essential role in facilitating medical simulation. This position integrates, maintains, and operates computer and audio-video (AV) technology, including manikins and surrounding simulation lab equipment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and ensure simulation and education-based technologies are maintained to minimize downtime.
- Assess equipment failures and remedy such failures in a timely fashion.
- Contribute to the development of curriculum and educational materials for different levels and types of training related to simulation.
- Interface with equipment manufacturers for troubleshooting, implementing hardware and software updates.
- Foster a Service Excellence culture.
- Evaluate simulation and education-based technology to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Operate or assist with the operation of simulators and task trainers for all training sessions.
- Provide consultation and orientation to instructors regarding simulation laboratory procedures, location and use of materials, and operation of equipment.
- Work under pressure and reliably meet deadlines.
- Work independently within parameters designated by the immediate supervisor.
- Assist with scheduling and coordination of medical simulators.
- Maintain all equipment and ensure timely ordering and availability of supplies.
- Identify performance opportunities or training needs related to simulation and provide coaching and development.
- Assist clinical educators with orientation to principles of simulation training technology and configurations.
- Contribute to strategic planning and business development within areas of responsibility.
- Represent the organization positively within the community; participate in company-supported events and in-services.
- Develop and maintain positive external relationships related to medical simulation.
- Identify opportunities to support service line growth through medical simulation.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and advancements in medical simulation.
- Conduct tours and simulation sessions for internal/external groups and individuals.
- Operate within the annual budget and manage department performance accordingly.
- Participate in the annual budget process, providing input into department simulation equipment needs.
- Manage operating expenses, including supplies and equipment, and identify cost reduction opportunities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or healthcare technology preferred.
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification preferred.
- Familiarity with operation of personal computers is preferred.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and audio-visual equipment is preferred.
Qualifications
- Certification in Healthcare Operations Simulation preferred.
