About the Role
The Simulation Specialist is an essential role in facilitating medical simulation. This position integrates, maintains, and operates computer and audio-video (AV) technology, including manikins and surrounding simulation lab equipment.
Responsibilities
- Monitors and ensures simulation and education-based technologies are maintained to ensure minimal downtime.
- Assesses equipment failures and remedies such issues in a timely fashion.
- Contributes to the development of curriculum and educational materials for different levels and types of training related to simulation.
- Interfaces with equipment manufacturers regarding troubleshooting, hardware, and software updates.
- Fosters a Service Excellence culture.
- Evaluates simulation and education-based technology to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Operates or assists with the operation of simulators and task trainers for all training sessions as needed.
- Provides consultation and orientation to instructors regarding simulation laboratory procedures, materials, and equipment operation.
- Works under pressure and reliably meets deadlines; works independently within designated parameters.
- Assists with scheduling and coordination of medical simulators.
- Maintains all equipment and ensures timely ordering and availability of supplies.
- Identifies performance opportunities or training needs related to simulation and provides coaching and development.
- Assists clinical educators with orientation to principles of simulation training technology and configurations.
- Contributes to strategic planning and business development within the area of responsibility.
- Represents the organization positively within the community; participates in company-supported events and in-services.
- Develops and maintains positive external relationships related to medical simulation.
- Identifies opportunities to support service line growth through medical simulation.
- Stays abreast of emerging technologies and advancements in medical simulation.
- Conducts tours and simulation sessions for internal/external groups and individuals.
- Operates within the annual budget and manages department performance accordingly.
- Participates in the annual budget process, providing input into department simulation equipment needs.
- Manages operating expenses, identifies cost-reduction opportunities, and implements savings actions.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED (Required).
- Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare or healthcare technology (Preferred).
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Certification (Preferred).
- Familiarity with operation of personal computers (Preferred).
- Familiarity with medical terminology and audio-visual equipment (Preferred).
- Certification in Healthcare Operations Simulation (Preferred).
