About the role

The District Supervisor at United Dairy Farmers oversees, leads, and manages up to 9 stores within a district. The primary responsibility is to ensure the delivery of an exceptional guest experience across each store by maintaining the UDF standard of excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily activities and coach The Hi Five Guest Experience;
  • Train associates personally or oversee their training;
  • Making recommendations for promotions, demotions, suspensions or separations;
  • Analyze guest experience and Quality Assurance scores to determine baseline levels of service and quickly respond to areas of improvement;
  • Stock merchandise, ensuring shelves, displays, milk boxes, and freezers are filled and faced;
  • Ensure coffee pots and ice dispensers are full, and proper stock rotation is maintained;
  • Ensure hand-dipped ice cream operations are prepared according to company standards;
  • Oversee and participate in the recruitment, interviewing, and selection of store associates;
  • Determine the most efficient use of allotted labor hours while optimizing labor within the district;
  • Provide direct reports with timely, candid, and constructive performance feedback; develop associates to their fullest potential and provide challenging opportunities for career growth;
  • Develop the appropriate talent pool to ensure adequate bench strength and succession planning; recognize and reward associates for accomplishments;
  • Grow and develop store leadership teams and offer opportunities to shadow the incumbent or cover the District Supervisor role while the incumbent is out;
  • Ensure stores are adequately stocked with merchandise at all times and store managers are accurately recording all sales transactions, vendor transactions, ordering, and pricing of products;
  • Participate in quarterly audits at each store;
  • Work with the store leadership team to minimize shoplifting and gas drive-offs, control cash levels in the register by using proper "drop" procedures, and follow all steps in the Tobacco/Alcohol Management and Robbery/Violence Deterrence programs;
  • Work with the Security team on investigations;
  • Ensure stores are properly authorizing and controlling gas sales, accurately registering all transactions, handling coins/currency/checks/credit card transactions/coupons/food stamps, and making change;
  • Cover the District Supervisor role when the incumbent is out;
  • Coordinate with the Corporate Fuel team on pricing strategy and changes;
  • Achieve adherence by associates to all company policies and procedures as well as all state and federal laws; investigate and resolve associate complaints or conflicts; accurately complete time records;
  • Prepare, analyze, and transmit district results; ensure stores follow the company's funds handling policy;
  • Monitor competitors' activities as to pricing, merchandising, advertising, etc. and recommend responsive action;
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent;
  • Five or more (5+) years’ experience managing managers and/or direct reports;
  • Previous experience in a QSR or C-store environment preferred;
  • Previous multi-unit retail store management experience preferred;
  • Belief in people development as a foundation for individual growth and organizational success;
  • Recognizes accountability for actions and results – both good and bad – is required to achieve success;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Conveys respect and a positive attitude towards others through challenges and within daily work responsibilities;
  • Fundamental understanding of key financial and retail performance metrics;
  • Extensive familiarity with food service programs including private label / home-grown versus external programs;
  • Process orientation and focus on prioritization and time management;
  • Self-starter, strong drive, highly motivated to successfully manage time and prioritize opportunities and make decisions to deliver optimal results;
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and attention to detail skills are required;
  • Must be well-organized and able to coordinate multiple tasks and requests;
  • Computer/Technical proficient in MS office/PC;
  • Prior experience with Convenience / QSR based POS systems, Loyalty platforms preferred.

Qualifications

  • Ability to speak, hear, and understand spoken English well enough to communicate effectively with customers;
  • Ability to see well enough to operate store equipment, including POS terminal, gas console, check identification documents, and to use price book;
  • Ability to understand operating instructions for store equipment and to operate all store equipment;
  • Ability to prepare DipSide items using supplies located in the dip cabinets;
  • Ability to handle coins, currency, checks, credit transactions, coupons, and food stamps, recognize denominations, and accurately make change;
  • Ability to recognize numbers, count, and do arithmetic well enough to complete required records;
  • Ability to move merchandise from storage to shelves/displays/freezers/milk box and place for proper display;
  • Ability to clean counters and other surfaces;
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to temperatures as low as –30 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 2 minutes;
  • Ability to tolerate exposure to temperatures as low as +33 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 10 minutes;
  • Ability to raise at least 10 pounds from floor level to a height of 5 feet;
  • Ability to place an 8” x 10” x 10” package weighing 21 pounds into a dip cabinet, the top of which is 3 feet above the floor.
