About the Test
The Los Angeles Unified School District offers the District Proficiency and Instructional Assistance Test to individuals who are interested in:
- Meeting the Every Student Succeeds Act requirements to be eligible for employment as a paraprofessional (e.g., Teacher Assistant, Instructional Assistant, Library Aide, etc.).
- Becoming eligible for employment as a Vocational Instructor with LAUSD.
- Satisfying the high-school educational requirement for classified (non-teaching) job opportunities.
Fees & Policies
- A $7.00 fee is charged for each test taken; payment instructions are provided in the test invitation. Cash or personal checks are not accepted.
- Active LAUSD employees who have received an employment offer from a school administrator are exempt from the fee, except those being hired as vocational instructors.
- Candidates who are unsuccessful must wait 30 days before retaking the test; a new fee applies for each retake.
Technical Requirements
- LAUSD employees must sign in to the GlobalProtect Virtual Private Network (VPN) to submit an application from outside an LAUSD location. For VPN assistance, contact Information Technology Services at (213) 443-1300 or (213) 241-5200.
Communication
- All correspondence (invitation and results) is sent via email.
- Current LAUSD employees: correspondence is sent to your work email account. If you have never used your LAUSD email, contact the IT help desk at (213) 241-5200 to activate it.
- Non-LAUSD employees (including laid-off or former employees): correspondence is sent to the email address in your candidate profile. Check it frequently for updates.
- If you previously took the test and cannot submit a new request, do not create a second profile. Use the most recent email you provided to reset your password.

Testing Appointment Requirements
You must present an official, current photo identification. Acceptable forms include:
- Current driver license
