About the role

This fully remote position involves interfacing with engineers to prepare computer-based models and perform power system studies on utility distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems. Studies include long/short-range planning, short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor correction, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) impact, load impact, and related analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in internal and external client meetings
  • Perform system modeling (steady-state load flows using CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, SKM, etc.)
  • Conduct distribution system circuit analysis for loading, voltage, reactive power, contingency, coordination, and reliability
  • Execute new load and generation interconnection studies
  • Recommend solutions and best practices for standard and non-standard situations
  • Perform detailed engineering analyses following standard methodology, criteria, and principles
  • Actively identify and encourage adoption of new technologies and work practices to reduce costs and improve safety
  • Conduct system reliability and resiliency planning studies

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-certified college or university
  • 2+ years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies (hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, long-term capital investment studies, model validation)
  • Experience using power flow analysis software (CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or equivalent)

Skills

  • Preferred: Prior experience working with or within electric utilities
  • Preferred: 5+ years of experience in distribution planning and electrical engineering system studies
  • Preferred: Ability to work in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment
  • Preferred: Experience forecasting load and generation growth
  • Preferred: Familiarity with short circuit software (ASPEN, CAPE, ETAP)
  • Preferred: Familiarity with distribution operation software (ADMS, DERMS)
  • Preferred: Experience with distribution design/drafting in AutoCAD
  • Preferred: Use of Python to automate power system modeling functionality
  • Preferred: Knowledge of utility protection philosophy and short circuit studies
  • Preferred: Experience with renewable energy generation facility design (solar, wind, battery storage)
  • Preferred: Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including technical report writing
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Independent System Operators (ISOs) such as PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, SPP

Pay

$81,499.00 - $138,549.00 (full-time, based on experience, skills, location, and other factors)
