About the role

This fully remote position involves interfacing with engineers to prepare computer-based models and perform power system studies on utility distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems. Studies include long/short-range planning, short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor correction, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) impact, load impact, and related analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in internal and external client meetings
  • Perform system modeling (steady-state load flows) using CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, SKM, or similar software
  • Conduct distribution system circuit analysis for loading, voltage, reactive power, contingency, coordination, and reliability
  • Perform new load and generation interconnection studies
  • Recommend solutions and best practices for standard and non-standard situations
  • Execute detailed engineering analyses following standard methodology, criteria, and principles
  • Identify and encourage adoption of new technologies and work practices to reduce costs and improve safety

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university
  • 2+ years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies (e.g., hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, long-term capital investment studies, model validation)
  • Experience using power flow analysis software such as CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or equivalent

Skills

Preferred:

  • Prior experience working with or within electric utilities
  • 5+ years of experience in distribution planning, operations, and electrical engineering system studies
  • Ability to work in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment
  • Experience forecasting load and generation growth
  • Familiarity with short circuit software (ASPEN, CAPE, ETAP)
  • Familiarity with distribution operation software (ADMS, DERMS)
  • Experience with distribution design/drafting in AutoCAD
  • Use of Python to automate functionality in power system modeling software
  • Familiarity with utility protection philosophy and short circuit studies
  • Experience with renewable energy generation facility design (solar, wind, battery storage)
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, including technical report writing
  • Familiarity with Independent System Operators (ISOs) such as PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, SPP

Pay

$81,499.00 – $138,549.00 (full-time, based on experience, skills, location, and other factors)
