This is the first level of the field technician positions and may serve as a training role for future Designer and/or CAD positions within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Collect facilities field data for updating records or preparing design documents, including data collection, measurement, mapping, field photography, equipment inventory, staking, and field-based reconnaissance under the direction of senior technical or engineering staff.
- Act as a design or staking assistant, collaborating with senior employees in the field.
- Adhere to and advocate for Pike Engineering’s Core Values among employees and clients.
- Follow all practices outlined in the Pike Engineering Safety Manual and promote safety initiatives.
- Accurately gather field data using paper drawings, forms, electronic data collection devices, digital cameras, or other specified formats/tools.
- Correctly identify items to be documented in the field with minimal supervision.
- Learn and apply technology tools such as hand-held data collection units, laser range finders, digital cameras, and GPS receivers.
- Accurately record measurements and dimensions, ensuring clarity and completeness per project specifications.
- Assist in power restoration efforts during natural disasters (e.g., driver, wire sitter, runner).
- Record data and measurements using correct standards and symbology for clear understanding by office-based personnel.
- Meet production targets and understand project deliverables and milestones.
- Perform overnight travel as required.
Requirements
- Well-organized in actions and written communication.
- Familiarity with common computer software, including MS Office Suite and CAD drafting systems (if applicable).
- Experience in design or line construction within a utility environment.
- Familiarity with GIS systems and basic data structures (preferred).
- High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
- Comfortable working in an outside environment.
- Valid driver’s license.
