Distribution Engineer

About the role

A Distribution Engineer will be moderately directed and supervised while assisting with the cooperative’s power system planning and applications engineering functions.

Responsibilities

• Assists in the planning, preparation, and implementation of various systems analysis and planning studies.
• Assists in developing and implementing construction specifications and procedures.
• Aids in preparing engineering drawings and staking for subdivision layouts, state highway jobs, mapping records, and other projects.
• Works with tools such as outage management systems, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, engineering analysis software, and mapping systems to assist operations personnel in developing and maintaining a safe and reliable electric distribution system.
• Assists with sectionalizing studies and ensures proper system coordination.
• Works with operations supervisors, crews, and contractors to complete projects safely and efficiently, which may require fieldwork or time outside the office.
• Addresses member questions or concerns.
• Collaborates with staking personnel to design work orders that meet member needs while adhering to company policies and procedures.
• Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of various engineering and operation agreements.
• Acquires a thorough understanding of electric power distribution design, construction, and operation, as well as the National Electrical Safety Code, tariffs, policies, procedures, and Kentucky PSC rules and regulations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (electrical engineering preferred).
• Specialized training in electric utility systems design and operation preferred.
• Cooperative experience preferred.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Must live within a 30-mile radius of headquarters.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Ability to work non-standard hours and/or extended hours beyond normal shifts, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during emergencies in all weather conditions.
• Approximately 60–70% of work is performed indoors.
• Physical ability to walk, stand for prolonged periods, and lift up to 50 pounds (occasionally over 50 pounds).
• Regular use of hands, fingers, and wrists for gripping, grasping, feeling, or twisting.
• Occasional reaching with hands and arms, climbing or balancing, and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Daily operation of a computer keyboard and mouse.
• Maintain good attendance and punctuality, travel as required, and participate in designated training programs.
