Distribution Designer I

About the role
TRC is seeking a Distribution Designer I to join our Power Distribution Engineering Group within our growing Power Sector. The role is based in the West Office in Wisconsin, but the work spans all over eastern Wisconsin. The Distribution Designer I will perform field data collection, detailed designing of electric distribution systems, and back-office work to support these functions. This includes gathering field data for designs, entering information into various programs, and preparing field notes, drawings, specifications, and estimates as defined by the client’s scope of work.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed design of electric distribution systems, including preparation of field notes, drawings, specifications, and design estimates.
- Interact with engineers and experienced distribution system designers.
- Acquire a working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), national engineering standards, utility construction standards, and best industry engineering practices.
- Develop broad knowledge of engineering disciplines, including design, constructability, construction methods and materials, and the economics involved.
- Maintain production and quality of projects, including field data, photographs, engineering analysis, reports, and various departmental reports and databases; manage files and records per departmental guidelines.
- Prepare and modify electrical and roadway drawings, specifications, calculations, charts, graphs, and construction drawing packages.
- Perform field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems, including system inventories, audits, joint use management, permitting, ground-line pole inspections, and lighting audits.
- Collect field data using laptop computers, tablets, GPS, and other electronic devices for input into database software.
- Develop a working knowledge of telephone, cable, and other communication facilities.
- Operate equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, perform pole inspections, and inspect and maintain pad-mount equipment.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally with all levels of the organization, clients, and agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- At minimum, a 2-year technical degree (Bachelor’s degree acceptable but not required).
- 1+ years of electric utility or telecommunications field experience preferred.
- Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) preferred.
- Knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office applications desired.
- Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation, DDS, or similar programs preferred.
- Proficient use of engineering software (preferred).
- Clear and valid driver’s license required.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Comfortable with physical tasks such as lifting equipment and walking long distances.

Pay
Salary Range: USD $21.00 - USD $35.10 per hour.
Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program, contingent on company, business segment, and individual performance against Key Performance Indicators.
