Distribution Designer
About the role
Stantec is hiring Distribution Designers to join our Power Delivery group. We combine the strength of a large company with the agility of specialized teams to tackle the challenges of the power sector in meeting worldwide demand for clean, efficient energy.
Responsibilities
- Perform site visits for field data collection and verification of existing distribution lines, facilities, and project requirements.
- Prepare cost estimates on design and fielding efforts.
- Prepare detailed design and engineering calculations of overhead electric distribution systems to comply with client standards, specifications, preferences, and relevant industry standards (NESC, GO95, GO128, and others).
- Develop bill of materials required for construction based on client standards and preferences.
- Develop permit drawings as necessary to accommodate construction.
- Support the day-to-day activities of the project from inception through engineering, construction, commissioning.
- Function as project engineer on assigned projects.
- Report the progress of the project to the senior engineer.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of design, construction, operation and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines below 34.5 kV.
- Experience with GPS field data collection platforms like IkeGPS is desirable.
- Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and OCalc is desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects with various due dates.
- Travel should be expected.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred or a 2-year associate degree.
- Minimum 3 years of utility experience (electric, water, gas, or telecom).
Skills
- Understanding of industry standards and regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
