Distribution Designer

About the role

Stantec is hiring Distribution Designers to join our Power Delivery group. We combine the strength of a large company with the agility of specialized teams to tackle the challenges of the power sector in meeting worldwide demand for clean, efficient energy.

Responsibilities

• Perform site visits for field data collection and verification of existing distribution lines, facilities, and project requirements.
• Prepare cost estimates on design and fielding efforts.
• Prepare detailed design and engineering calculations of overhead electric distribution systems to comply with client standards, specifications, preferences, and relevant industry standards (NESC, GO95, GO128, and others).
• Develop bill of materials required for construction based on client standards and preferences.
• Develop permit drawings as necessary to accommodate construction.
• Support the day-to-day activities of the project from inception through engineering, construction, commissioning.
• Function as project engineer on assigned projects.
• Report the progress of the project to the senior engineer.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of design, construction, operation and maintenance of overhead and underground distribution lines below 34.5 kV.
• Experience with GPS field data collection platforms like IkeGPS is desirable.
• Experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-Pole, and OCalc is desirable.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects with various due dates.
• Travel should be expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred or a 2-year associate degree.
• Minimum 3 years of utility experience (electric, water, gas, or telecom).

Skills

• Understanding of industry standards and regulations.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
