Distribution Designer
We are looking for an Electric Distribution Designer to join our team and help improve infrastructure. The ideal candidate will be solution-oriented, self-motivated, and able to maintain high-quality standards while adhering to tight deadlines.
About the role
This role involves designing, planning, and coordinating low-voltage electric distribution projects. Initially, you will support work referred to as ESS4, where field-identified infrastructure repairs are designed, analyzed, and finalized into work orders. You will use the DDS design package and First Energy’s Crews (a SAP-based system) to complete work orders. Over time, you will transition into make-ready work and low-voltage distribution (LVD) projects.
Responsibilities
- Design electrical distribution systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications.
- Collaborate with clients, project managers, and team members to gather project requirements and provide progress updates.
- Communicate with the public to inform them of upcoming project work in their area, minimizing disruption and maintaining community engagement.
- Complete asset assessments of overhead and underground electric equipment.
- Produce detailed design documentation, including drawings and specifications, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Perform engineering functions and calculations (e.g., voltage drop, flicker).
- Conduct site assessments and feasibility studies for proposed projects.
- Prepare and facilitate requests for forestry, permitting, and Right-of-Way acquisition.
- Perform detailed analysis of utility poles using PoleForeman software.
- Prepare joint pole authorizations.
- Provide technical oversight and QA/QC of team designs and analysis.
- Maintain organized project files and documentation for easy retrieval and reference.
- Contribute to a positive team environment, fostering collaboration and open communication.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in electrical distribution design within a utility setting.
- Experience with power distribution, ESS4 work, DDS design packages, and Crews (or similar SAP-based systems).
- Proficiency in engineering calculations (e.g., voltage drop, flicker) and software tools like PoleForeman.
- Strong organizational, writing, and communication skills.

Pay
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00 per hour.
