Distribution Center Assistant Manager | Miami

About the role

The Distribution Center Assistant Manager will assist the Distribution Center Manager (DCM) with all aspects of the Miami warehouse’s day-to-day operations, including Shipping, Receiving, Inventory Management, and Customer Service. This role focuses on meeting established metrics, training and developing team members, and driving cost reduction through efficiency and innovation. The Assistant Manager must be able to oversee the entire Distribution Center in the DCM’s absence.

Responsibilities

• Warehouse Management
  • Manage warehouse expenses within budget (freight spend and supplies).
  • Oversee the overall warehouse and facility to meet company standards.
• Warehouse Physical Facility & Perimeter Management
  • Maintain security of inventories and ensure a clean, safe, and hygienic environment in warehousing, dock, reefer, and freezer areas, as well as the building perimeter.
  • Ensure compliance with governmental regulations and conduct daily inspections of work areas, correcting or reporting findings.
  • Ensure all equipment (fixed and non-fixed) and work areas are safe and operational.
  • Lead and oversee all Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) programs, ensuring compliance with food safety, sanitation, allergen-control, GDP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain food safety records, support audits and inspections, and drive employee training and corrective actions.
• Transfer Management
  • Ensure all required transfers are processed and shipped within one week of receipt.
  • Verify accuracy of transfers, including staging, scanning, and double-checking before posting.
  • Seek approval for all changes and ensure timely receiving of inbound transfers, scanned and put-away per company guidelines.
• Stock Management
  • Jointly responsible for restocking and inventory disposition (dispose or donate) with 100% adherence to established processes.
  • Rotate/replenish stock (FIFO) and ensure accuracy of locations, lot tracking, and home location administration.
  • Manage “cycle counts” to ensure inventory accuracy and re-barcode when necessary.
  • Ensure stock is properly stored and protected, and report non-conforming products to Purchasing for adjustments.
  • Perform weekly inspections of inventory and report issues such as overstock or short stock.
  • Participate in physical inventories and maintain inventory accuracy within budget guidelines.
• Order Fulfillment
  • Ensure all customer orders received before the cut-off time are processed and shipped the same day.
  • Interact with Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) on issues such as routing, freight claims, OS&D, etc.
  • Mitigate shipping errors and facilitate retraining as needed.
  • Ensure all pulled items are scanned and packaging procedures are followed, including proper usage of supplies, sized boxes, and labeling for special handling.
  • Provide necessary business communication to carriers and achieve thorough knowledge of FedEx and UPS manifest systems.
  • Manage shipping activity with freight companies, set daily pickup appointments with LTL carriers, and demonstrate knowledge of both dry and refrigerated LTL carriers.
  • Work closely with common carriers (UPS & FDX) to schedule late or midday pickups.
  • Plan for and communicate business trends to DC personnel and carrier companies to ensure on-time shipping performance.

Requirements

• Bilingual in Spanish and English.
• 4 years of experience in warehousing, logistics, or related fields.
• Ability to lead and supervise employees, with strong communication skills.
• Forklift certification.
• Knowledge of modern warehousing techniques, including logistics, special handling/storage requirements, and shipping alternatives.
• Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and handle recurring problems.
• Willingness to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as workload dictates.
• Physical ability to lift 50 lbs.

Pay

The base salary for this role is $50,000 - $55,000, with eligibility for a performance-based bonus.
