About the Role

The Distribution Center Assistant Manager is responsible for day-to-day operational excellence of the site, ensuring consistent application of standard operating procedures, policies, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). This role oversees site financials, including P&L management, and leads all employment-related activities for site team members.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all elements of distribution center operations, including shipping, receiving, inventory control, and route management.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of picking, receiving, put-away, load/ship of all orders, and product returns.
  • Apply SOPs consistently to achieve operational performance indicators.
  • Protect company assets, including inventory, equipment, and facility.
  • Maintain the facility, equipment, and vehicles; resolve issues that may interfere with safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
  • Manage labor, delivery, and other variable costs to align with annual business plans.
  • Report on building performance (KPIs), including:
    • Customer Service: Net Promoter Score, On-Time Delivery
    • Productivity: Units per Hour, Minimal Rework
    • Cost Performance: Delivery Costs, Labor Costs
  • Drive team member accountability and performance, ensuring company policies are administered appropriately.
  • Direct subordinate team members to maximize performance in KPIs (Customer Service, Productivity, Cost Performance).
  • Champion company safety initiatives, including TRIR (Total Reportable Incidence Rate) and Preventable Accident rates.
  • Collaborate with Wholesale and Franchise sales teams to meet service level agreements and identify customer service improvements.
  • Foster an Employer of Choice environment and enhance employee experience.
  • Ensure compliance with company and regulatory training for staff.
  • Partner with Human Resources to execute employment cycle activities, including hiring, training, performance management, and succession.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in SOPs to enhance efficiency, cost, or customer satisfaction.
  • Lead implementation of building initiatives related to technology, cost containment, inventory management, safety, training, and engagement.
  • Ensure successful adoption of new behaviors and skills for evolving expectations.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels to meet operational and financial goals while upholding customer service excellence.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A 4-year degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Operations, Business, or related disciplines is preferred, or equivalent experience in warehouse distribution or transportation.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated management experience, including leadership, motivational ability, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work well under pressure, prioritize, manage time, and maintain composure.
  • Knowledge of Lean methodology and proven success driving change in dynamic environments.
  • Safety-first mentality.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to repetitively lift up to 50 pounds while bending and twisting.
  • Must maintain a current driver’s license.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, holidays, and weekends as needed.
  • 24/7 access to cell phone, email, and security system for emergencies.
  • ERP system and routing software experience is a plus.
  • High level of professional integrity.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus.
