About the Project

Bechtel National, Inc. (BNI), Bechtel’s government services business, supports the Uranium Processing Facility (UPF) at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. UPF is one of the Department of Energy’s largest investments in Tennessee since the Manhattan Project and one of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s largest construction projects. When complete, UPF will replace a 70-year-old facility with modern buildings, reduce operational costs and energy consumption, improve worker safety, and provide enriched uranium capabilities well into the future.

The UPF Construction project operates on various schedules with differing start times and may require employees to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and/or night shifts based on project needs.

Eligibility requires U.S. citizenship; candidates must provide proof of citizenship to obtain site badge access. Candidates must complete a security questionnaire and successfully clear site access requirements. All employees are subject to and agree to random drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment. Must be able to obtain a security clearance, as applicable.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and organize subcontractor planning, safety, quality, and technical activities on a complex project with multiple stakeholders.
• Provide field supervision to ensure operations align with established schedules and work methods are executed safely.

Planning

• Monitor subcontractor construction schedules, resource charts, and material and equipment requirements.
• Review subcontractor construction methods, schedules, manning charts, and material and equipment requirements.

Safety/Quality

• Monitor installation of materials and equipment to ensure conformance with drawings, specifications, vendor, and other requirements.
• Enforce policies, procedures, and related work rules as established by field construction management.
• Ensure Zero Accident Philosophy and requirements are implemented and adhered to by craft and others in the operational area.
• Ensure tools and equipment are in safe condition and operated safely.

Technical

• Support Construction Field Engineers, Foremen, and Craft Professionals in interpreting engineering design documents, vendor documents, and other technical documents.
• Coordinate engineering solutions with subcontractors, Foremen, and Craft Professionals.
• Coordinate with Design on constructability issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8–10 years of relevant experience, or 12–14 years of relevant work experience.
• Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD, and/or commercial nuclear construction projects.
• Self-starter, highly motivated, and able to work with little supervision.
• Ability to excel in a team environment.
• Previous experience leading, mentoring, and managing large construction teams.
• Good working knowledge of current design codes and standards such as ACI, AISC, ASME, and NQA-1 requirements.
• Good working knowledge of labor relations, labor agreements, and craft jurisdiction.
• Knowledge of environmental compliance standards required on NNSA/DOE projects.
• Previous experience on the UPF Project with the construction indirects team.
