Lead Constr Superintendent
Responsibilities
Directs the day-to-day execution and coordination of assigned Next 150 trades, scopes, and self-performed work to ensure safe, high-quality production in accordance with approved scope, schedule, and work plans.
Develops, documents, and communicates detailed work plans for assigned scopes and ensures that all field changes are properly reviewed, documented, safety planned, and authorized prior to execution.
Maintains a thorough understanding of contract documents, specifications, and coordination requirements in order to plan work effectively and anticipate potential issues.
Obtains or verifies that all required permits, inspections, and compliance documentation are secured and maintained for assigned scopes.
Establishes and maintains credibility with Owners, Gilbane leadership, trade contractors, unions, and field personnel through fair, professional, and consistent leadership; verifies safety compliance for assigned trades and field activities, acts as the primary Next 150 safety representative for assigned scopes, and enforces applicable safety and quality control policies; leads contractor meetings related to assigned scopes and coordinates activities with project and field leadership.
Creates, manages, and updates scope-level schedules and implements contingency plans as necessary to maintain commitments; communicates schedule status, constraints, and changes to the General Superintendent, Project Team, and affected Trade Contractors.
Plans, coordinates, and manages jobsite logistics for assigned scopes, including access, material flow, temporary facilities, and sequencing.
Oversees quality execution for assigned scopes and implements corrective actions to maintain compliance with project and company standards.
Aids in resolving jurisdictional disputes and field-level conflicts within assigned scopes.
Tracks production, labor hours, and productivity metrics for assigned work and reports variances.
Executes self-perform operations, workforce planning, and quantification of labor, materials, and equipment needs for assigned scopes.
Supports forecasting and cost-of-work projections in coordination with the General Superintendent and Project Management.
Trains direct reports on processes, procedures, and completion of daily tasks.
Manages workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards.
Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members.
Aids in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management
7-10 years of experience on $15 million or larger commercial/ industrial construction projects in a superintendent role
Experience leading components and/or a whole project
OSHA 30 hour certified
Or equivalent combination of education and experience
Strong technical and communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing needs
Ability to work in a team environment; ability to collaborate on a daily basis with the project team
Proficient in Microsoft Office, safety and site operations software, project management software, and construction management software
Knowledge of construction-documenting and drawing, with knowledge of all phases of construction
Knowledge in all divisions of work, methods, materials, scheduling, and cost control
Strong knowledge and appreciation of construction safety processes and ability to enforce the project safety plan
Ability to create a “safety first” environment by showing a commitment to Zero Injury principles and sustainability practices
