Reports to: Dispatcher Supervisor
Summary / Primary Role: The Dispatcher is responsible for coordinating the timely pickup and delivery of freight across local and regional transportation networks. This role serves as a critical link between drivers, customers, terminals, warehouses, and internal teams to ensure efficient freight movement, regulatory compliance, and exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
- Dispatch & Transportation Coordination: Coordinate the pickup and delivery of freight between customers, warehouses, marine terminals, rail terminals, and other facilities. Schedule appointments, assign loads, and monitor shipment progress to ensure timely service and efficient operations.
- Shipment Tracking & Compliance: Monitor driver Hours of Service and ensure compliance with FMCSA and other applicable transportation regulations. Track container availability, releases, appointments, and shipment status using internal systems and industry platforms.
- Customer Service & Operational Communication: Serve as a key point of contact for customers and internal departments by providing timely updates and resolving transportation issues. Collaborate with warehouse, transportation, customs brokerage, and international logistics teams to prioritize freight movement and support business objectives.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of dispatch experience in a trucking, transportation, or intermodal logistics environment.
- Working knowledge of Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and applicable transportation regulations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience with terminal, chassis provider, ocean carrier, eModal, and/or UIIA systems preferred.
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a customer-focused approach.
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively with drivers, contractors, customers, and internal teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to accuracy, accountability, and professionalism.
- Experience in freight transportation, intermodal logistics, drayage, warehousing, or supply chain operations preferred.
