About the role
The Dispatch Supervisor is responsible for managing the logistics operations within the third division, reporting directly to the Logistics Manager. The role involves direct supervision of drivers and other dispatchers.
Responsibilities
- Direct daily driver duties, managing routes, times, and end of shifts.
- Negotiate rates with third-party carriers and enter purchase orders as needed.
- Manage DOT compliance regarding driver hours of service.
- Communicate with internal and external customers, ensuring smooth operations and customer satisfaction.
- Initiate and participate in disciplinary actions for drivers according to company policy.
- Review and verify driver documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Select external carriers to transport loads as needed.
- Ensure drivers are accurately compensated for work performed.
- Manage fleet flow to lease vendor’s shops for repairs and maintain coordination with vendors for road breakdowns.
- Follow and enforce all safety policies, investigate incidents thoroughly, and lead by example in terms of behavior and performance.
- Ride along with drivers periodically to understand their experiences and address needs.
- Supervise and train employees, resolve conflicts, and coach team members to improve performance.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of experience as a dispatcher, with preferred college and/or technical experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain management.
- One year of supervisory experience managing at least five people.
- Four years of experience in shipping and warehousing or CDL truck driving experience.
Qualifications
- Able to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Able to write routine reports and communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Able to speak clearly and convey information to groups of customers and employees.
Skills
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficient in DOT regulations and compliance.
- Experience with fleet management and vehicle maintenance.
- Effective leadership and supervisory skills.
Benefits
Dependent on experience, the salary range is between $60,000/year and $70,000/year.
