About the Role

As a Dispatch Supervisor, you will oversee daily driver duties, including route management, time allocation, and concluding drivers' shifts. You will ensure DOT compliance related to drivers' hours of service when assigning loads and tasks. This role involves significant interaction with internal and external customers, including shift hand-off communication to maintain seamless operations and customer service.

You will also enter purchase orders, participate in driver discipline per company policy, review driver documents for accuracy and compliance, and assist in selecting external carriers for loads. Additionally, you will manage payroll to ensure drivers are accurately compensated, oversee fleet operations for financial efficiency and safety, and coordinate fleet maintenance and road breakdowns with vendors.

Safety is a priority; you will enforce all safety policies, complete incident investigation forms with detailed reports, and periodically conduct ride-alongs with drivers to understand their challenges and needs.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily driver duties, including route planning, time management, and shift conclusion.
  • Manage DOT compliance for drivers' hours of service when assigning loads.
  • Interact with internal and external customers, including shift hand-off communication.
  • Enter purchase orders (POs) as needed.
  • Participate in and initiate driver discipline according to company policy.
  • Review driver documents for accuracy and compliance.
  • Select external carriers for loads as needed.
  • Manage payroll to ensure accurate driver compensation.
  • Oversee fleet operations for financial efficiency, safety, service, and cost considerations.
  • Coordinate fleet maintenance and road breakdowns with vendors.
  • Enforce all safety policies and ensure compliance among drivers and employees.
  • Complete incident investigation forms with detailed reports for safety-related events.
  • Conduct periodic ride-alongs with drivers to assess their needs and experiences.
  • Supervise employees assigned to the department, including training, work assignment, performance appraisal, and conflict resolution.
  • Set an example of superior behavior, attitude, performance, and teamwork.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience as a Dispatcher.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College or related technical experience in Logistics, Transportation, or Supply Chain Management.
  • One year of supervisory experience managing at least five people.
  • Four years of experience in Shipping and Warehousing or CDL Truck Driving.

Skills

  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or graphic form.
  • Ability to handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to walk, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Required to sit and move around.
  • Vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
