Stationed at the Main Campus Safety Headquarters, the Dispatch Officer reports directly to the Director of Campus Safety. This is a community-facing position that requires engagement with the University’s community and its visitors to create a safe and welcoming environment.
Responsibilities
- Dispatch emergency services when needed and monitor security cameras within the Campus Safety Headquarters.
- Act as a first responder in emergencies while adhering to University guidelines.
- Work collectively with the Shift Supervisor Officer and other officers to ensure smooth shift operations.
- Dispatch Shift Supervisor to locations of interest throughout the campus.
- Answer phones and communicate with various University departments.
- Coordinate with local Police Department, EMS, Fire Department, etc., during emergencies.
- Assist Residence and Student Life with enforcement of hall regulations and Code of Conduct violations.
- Collaborate with other University departments as necessary to perform duties.
- Observe and report hazardous conditions to the Director of Campus Safety or their designee.
- Ensure only authorized persons are admitted to campus while on duty; direct visitors and assist as needed.
- Monitor CCTV System, Fire Panel System, Card Access, and Door Access System.
- Create and distribute Student ID cards with access permissions.
- Enforce campus traffic regulations, including parking and speeding.
- Enforce campus policies on smoking, alcohol usage, and drug usage.
- Observe weather conditions and report dangerous or unusual weather-related activity.
- Complete investigations of University violations, including reviewing camera footage, interviewing witnesses, and writing incident reports.
- Act as a liaison for the College with local law enforcement and EMS when required.
- Perform incidental custodial and maintenance duties as needed.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Current valid NYS Security License.
- Clean valid driver’s license.
- CPR and First Aid training.
- Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams.
- At least two years of related experience.

- Strong interpersonal skills; customer service background a plus.
- Ability to cultivate a positive work environment and communicate effectively.
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
- Ability to work well with other University departments.
- Mentally analyze situations, solve problems, and make decisions under pressure.
- Read and understand written instructions and communicate information clearly in writing.
- Keep all necessary licensure current and valid.
Physical Requirements
- Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting.
- Must regularly stand or walk for extended periods in all climates.
Pay
This is an hourly non-exempt position with a rate of $20.58.
Schedule
Full-time, 40 hours per week, and part-time, 29 hours per week.
