About the Role

The job of Dispatch & Route Specialist is done for the purpose of providing safe and efficient student transportation throughout the district; overseeing day-to-day operation of school bus drivers; assigning and scheduling routes and buses; maintaining and updating bus routes; processing information pertaining to routine and emergency road and maintenance issues; and maintaining department records in accordance with mandated requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Drives school bus/s for the purpose of transporting passengers over scheduled routes to and from school and/or field trips in a safe and timely manner.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operation of school bus drivers.
  • Assigning and scheduling routes and buses.
  • Maintaining and updating bus routes.
  • Processing information pertaining to routine and emergency road and maintenance issues.
  • Maintaining department records in accordance with mandated requirements.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of district boundaries and local geography.
  • Knowledge of emergency protocols.
  • Knowledge of transportation laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of pertinent department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of concepts of grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to operate two-way radio and county emergency radio.
  • Ability to route plan and optimize.
  • Ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including utilizing pertinent software applications.
  • Ability to perform standard clerical procedures.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records.
