Dishwasher

Assists the Food & Nutrition Services Supervisor to ensure lunch services at St. Joseph Academy are delivered consistent with national food handling standards, the academy’s mission and values, institutional policies, and all regulatory and licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Washes lunch dishes and sets up service areas
• Assists in food preparation for children
• Operates and sanitizes food-service equipment
• Maintains cleanliness of the facility
• Troubleshoots production-area issues and reports equipment malfunctions
• Fills in for other Food Service staff during vacations and absences

Requirements

• High school education or equivalent training/experience
• Food-service preparation experience preferred
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred
• Safe Serve certification required
• Ability to analyze issues, identify options, and implement solutions
• Interest in working with children
• Ability to collaborate with staff inside and outside the Food & Nutrition Services department
• Strong verbal and written communication skills; effective interaction with children, families, and staff
• Good hand-eye coordination
• Ability to read, write, and follow directions and instructions
• Detail-oriented; ability to multitask, set priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Ability to walk and stand routinely throughout the shift
• Occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. and pushing up to 350 lbs. with appropriate equipment
• Ability to manage stress and respond quickly while engaged in multiple tasks

Environmental Conditions

• Exposure to infectious or communicable diseases inherent to child-care settings
• Occasional exposure to loud or unpredictable voices
• Seasonal exposure to high humidity due to facility temperature control
• Exposure to ware chemicals, cleaning agents, and slippery surfaces in food-service areas
