About the role
The Discipleship Pastor serves as the primary leader for adult discipleship at a Mariners congregation. With the support of the Congregation Lead Pastor, this person will be a leader, unifier, and multiplier of what God wants to do in and through the people of their congregation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and execution of strategic discipleship initiatives that serve the needs of the congregation while fostering spiritual maturity and growth.
- Regularly assess and adapt the ministry to ensure it is fulfilling the discipleship needs of adults in the church.
- Lead the design and execution of adult discipleship initiatives, ensuring that Rooted Groups and Life Groups are thriving and creating spaces for deep spiritual growth.
- Serve as the liaison between the congregation and the Mariners Outreach team, connecting the church body with local service opportunities.
- Ensure that the church is actively engaged in outreach efforts, according to the overall Mariners Outreach strategy.
- Foster a culture where Life Groups are regularly serving together in Outreach.
- Lead by example, demonstrating a commitment to a lifestyle of serving that aligns with the church’s vision for showing and sharing the Good News.
- Lead the process of recruiting, training, and equipping volunteers to serve in various leadership roles within adult discipleship, ensuring the team is both passionate and aligned with the church’s mission.
- Build and lead teams of staff and volunteers who are dedicated to growing in their discipleship and leadership.
- Ensure leaders have the tools and training they need to develop others and lead with excellence.
Requirements
- Proven leadership experience in discipleship, group ministry, or related church leadership roles.
- Strong biblical knowledge and a commitment to fostering a Christ-centered, gospel-driven culture.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Experience in volunteer recruitment, training, and equipping, with a heart for developing others.
- A passion for outreach and service, with the ability to inspire others to serve locally and globally.
- Ability to recruit, lead, and develop teams of volunteers and leaders with varying levels of experience and commitment.
- A collaborative spirit with a willingness to work closely with other ministry teams to achieve church-wide goals.
- A servant-hearted leader who models humility, Christlikeness, and a deep love for people.
- A strategic thinker who is proactive and solutions-focused in developing and executing plans.
- A relational and approachable leader with the ability to engage with a wide range of people and build strong connections.
- A strong communicator who is able to cast vision, motivate others, and provide clear direction.
- A passion for seeing others grow in their faith and develop into fully devoted followers of Jesus.
- A commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, excellence, and accountability.
Qualifications
- Love Jesus and call themselves Christians.
- Embrace a high biblical standard of personal conduct and lifestyle.
- Agree to and adhere to the church's statement of faith and leadership commitment.
- Participate then facilitate Rooted once per ministry year.
- Attend Mariners Church.

Schedule
The schedule generally includes weekend services, meetings at our office in Irvine, and time spent with the congregation team and in the community.
