About the role
DIS-TRAN Steel is seeking a Design Automation Engineer to join the Pineville Plant team. This role supports the company’s Smart Engineering transformation by developing and validating digital engineering workflows.
Responsibilities
- Develop and validate intelligent Autodesk Inventor models for transmission and substation structures
- Translate engineering calculations, design standards, customer requirements, and manufacturing needs into structured model parameters, rules, and reusable design content
- Promote model-based engineering practices that reduce repetitive work and unnecessary engineering variation
- Ensure automated models and engineering outputs meet customer, industry, company, engineering, and manufacturing requirements
- Collaborate effectively across Engineering, Detailing, Operations, Manufacturing, ERP/MES, Data, and software development teams
- Maintain a strong focus on data quality and ensure engineering-generated information is accurate, trusted, and usable by downstream systems and teams
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement through engineering automation, standardization, reusable content, and improved design processes
- Support the long-term development and adoption of engineering automation, standards governance, and model-based engineering practices
- Create configurable assemblies, reusable templates, and parameter-driven engineering design tools
- Translate engineering calculations, design standards, customer requirements, and design intent into model parameters, rules, templates, and structured automation logic
- Support iLogic, iProperties, and other Autodesk Inventor automation methods in partnership with the Inventor Developer
- Validate automated model outputs against engineering requirements, customer expectations, detailing requirements, and manufacturing needs
- Identify and implement opportunities to reduce repetitive modeling, detailing, BOM, and BOO creation efforts
- Support the expansion of automated and model-based engineering workflows across standard and semi-standard structure families
- Develop and maintain engineering template libraries in alignment with approved engineering and design standards
- Support the development of governed standard parts, assemblies, templates, and approved design patterns
- Determine which components, assemblies, and design elements should be standard, configurable, or job-specific
- Ensure models, templates, and reusable engineering content comply with applicable customer, industry, company, and manufacturing requirements
- Define and support engineering metadata requirements for drawings, BOMs, BOOs, Epicor, MES, procurement, manufacturing, analytics, and future AI-enabled tools
- Ensure automated models generate accurate and usable information for downstream processes and systems
- Validate that model outputs support manufacturing consumption, material requirements, operational requirements, and drawing clarity
- Support model outputs that can be consumed by downstream systems with minimal manual re-entry, interpretation, or correction
- Troubleshoot model behavior and automated outputs and recommend improvements to engineering logic, templates, standards, and workflows
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a safety related discipline preferred
- At least three years of experience in industrial safety and industrial hygiene required
- Knowledge of state, federal, and local industrial health and safety regulations and programs (OSHA, PPE, etc.)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred
- Epicor experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Access required
- At least 3-5 years of leadership position experience required
- Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook is required
- Strong leadership and communication skills required
- Regular, reliable attendance is required

Pay
The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $80,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
This is a full-time position with a standard Monday through Friday schedule.
