Director, Warehouse Operations

About the Role

As a Director of Operations, you are responsible for the operations of the grocery/perishable warehouses and warehouse maintenance & support facilities at a high-volume, fast-paced distribution center. This position is accountable for achieving overall operating results consistent with individual and company performance goals. Specifically, you will be responsible for the annual operating plan and budget for your facilities.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate performance of all distribution center functions, address performance gaps, and take corrective action to ensure managers meet operating goals.
• Assess business conditions, evaluate emerging needs (e.g., seasonality, promotions), and take action to improve service, reduce costs, and generate revenue.
• Oversee preparation and approval of the annual operating budget for assigned facilities, including warehouses, garage, fleet, offices, and support functions.
• Prepare, evaluate, and approve capital expenditure proposals for facility and equipment upgrades, submitting them to the director of distribution.
• Direct the adoption of improved processes, new equipment, and facilities, ensuring incremental business results.
• Maintain high customer service standards, monitor performance, and address gaps or improvement opportunities.
• Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with company policies and health and safety regulations.
• Oversee facility and equipment management, identifying necessary remodeling or replacements.
• Oversee record keeping, inspections, audits, and safety training.
• Conduct performance appraisals, coach direct reports, and assist in developing performance improvement goals.
• Develop and maintain a succession plan, ensuring equal opportunity for advancement.
• Monitor effectiveness of development and skill-building systems, taking corrective action as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in General Studies or equivalent experience.
• 7-10 years of experience in retail operations, distribution, transportation, logistics, and/or supply chain management.

Skills

• Working knowledge of financial and operational analysis.
• Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), and email software.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, in English.
• Extensive experience in retail distribution, logistics, supply chain management, warehouse operations, and transportation management preferred.
• Strong leadership skills, including team facilitation, training, and motivation.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks, organize, and coordinate activities in complex situations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• High standard of integrity and reliability, able to build trust and loyalty.
