Director Veterinary Quality- South Carolina

About the role

This role will be based out of Banfield Pet Hospital’s South Carolina markets. The primary purpose and function of the Director of Veterinary Quality is to ensure care delivered in assigned hospitals meets industry and Banfield quality standards. This position partners with Vice Presidents of Veterinary Quality and Area Chiefs of Staff to execute veterinary initiatives. The Director serves as a champion for quality by communicating, demonstrating, and driving a culture consistent with the five Mars, Inc. principles and the six domains of quality (safe, effective, patient/client-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable) at the market level to optimize results in improved medical care, a better client experience, increased associate engagement, and better hospital performance.

Responsibilities

• Live and exemplify the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. within self and team.
• In partnership with the Area Chief of Staff (ACOS), drive a successful and growing doctor team through recruiting, gathering referrals, and hiring; ensure exceptional onboarding and mentorship experiences.
• Consult with operational partners on doctor risk, staffing needs, and compensation.
• Develop and lead Area Chiefs of Staff to ensure care delivered meets industry, regulatory, and Banfield quality standards.
• Drive market performance to deliver outstanding, high-quality medical care aligned with the six domains of quality and meet practice OGSMs and quality KPIs.
• Oversee implementation and auditing of medical quality programs; consult with field and hospital leaders as appropriate.
• Work with Field Directors and Hospital Leaders to oversee safety of clients, associates, and pets by ensuring compliance with all safety procedures and regulations.
• Ensure hospital operations meet all local, state, and federal regulations; lead efforts for DEA and radiation safety and compliance.
• Travel to assigned markets and perform regular hospital visits to assess and validate delivery of care and performance of ACOS and veterinary provider teams.
• Develop productive relationships with veterinary medical colleges to meet long-term recruiting needs; act as University Liaison and Central Team Support as needed.
• Manage the market-level medical equipment budget and oversee maintenance and calibration of medical equipment.
• Actively participate in local, state, and national veterinary organizations to cultivate relationships and promote Banfield’s brand reputation.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions

• Ability to work at a computer for long periods; project timelines and work volume may require more than 40 hours per week.
• Mental processes for reasoning, remembering, mathematics, and English language proficiency (reading, writing, and speaking).
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds; good hand–eye coordination and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
• Work environment is normally moderate noise with pets present.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent foreign degree required.
• Five years practicing in small animal veterinary medicine and surgery.
• Two years’ experience in hospital leadership.
• Five years’ experience in multi-location veterinary management.
• Active veterinary license in good standing in every state where overseeing hospitals.
• Must obtain state-controlled substance and federal DEA registration within 3 months of employment (unless otherwise required by state).
• USDA accreditation by the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service.
• All field leaders are required to live in their market/region.

Pay

Salary range: $132,172 – $198,257 annually. The specific rate is determined based on the candidate’s experience, skill level, abilities, education, and may vary depending on location and schedule.
