About the Role

Under the direction of a college Vice President or designee, this position performs varied and responsible duties in the development, organization, and administration of activities designed to assist students in planning and preparing for transfer to four-year institutions. The role emphasizes increasing the transfer rate of students from traditionally underrepresented populations and works with faculty, staff, and students to create campus events that provide student development opportunities related to cultural diversity and awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with counselors, faculty, and students to provide information on general education requirements and academic planning materials needed for transfer to CSU, UC, and private colleges and universities.
  • Provide information regarding the processing of college and university transfer agreements.
  • Collaborate with matriculation personnel to identify potential transfer students, with special emphasis on traditionally underrepresented populations, and establish procedures for tracking students to provide appropriate transfer-related services and referrals.
  • Develop and maintain procedures to monitor student use of campus transfer services; collect and report data on transfer readiness and college transfer rates, focusing on students from traditionally underrepresented populations.
  • Develop and maintain transfer agreements with four-year institutions; maintain a resource library of transfer-related materials, including college catalogs, transfer guides, articulation information, and applications.
  • Facilitate student use of transfer-related electronic database information, such as ASSIST.
  • Conduct transfer-related and cultural-related workshops on campus; arrange publicity for transfer and cultural activities; coordinate scheduling of events to encourage student and faculty use of Transfer Center services.
  • Encourage instructional faculty participation in the development, implementation, and evaluation of transfer and student development efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison between the college and four-year institutions to maintain transfer agreements; schedule campus events and individual Transfer Center appointments with representatives from four-year institutions.
  • Attend regional meetings, transfer activity workshops, and local and state conferences to acquire transfer information and maintain current knowledge of critical transfer initiatives and policy changes.
  • Distribute transfer information to faculty senate, counselors, faculty, and students; develop and maintain community partnerships to enrich cultural connections between the college and surrounding communities.
  • Develop and prepare annual preliminary budgets for assigned programs; monitor and control budget expenditures; direct the preparation and maintenance of detailed reports, records, and files.
  • Determine appropriate equipment and supplies for programs and services in accordance with established policies.
  • Train, supervise, evaluate, and direct the work of personnel as assigned; participate in selection and hiring processes.
  • Plan, organize, and arrange staff development programs and activities; provide orientation for new employees.
  • Organize, attend, or chair administrative and staff meetings as required; serve on committees and special projects; coordinate programs and services with other District and college personnel.
  • Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies pertinent to assigned programs; learn and apply emerging technologies as necessary.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of disabilities and diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of students.
  • Provide leadership in District/College efforts to increase diversity of faculty and staff, address student achievement gaps, and create a welcoming and inclusive work and educational environment.
  • Assist and promote the growth and success of a diverse population of students and employees through the development of interculturally competent and equity-minded management and leadership abilities.
  • Coordinate a variety of activities and events to promote campus diversity.

Requirements

  • Possession of a master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • At least one year of formal training, internship, or leadership experience reasonably related to the position.
  • Commitment to diversity and demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate how experience with diverse factors relates to successfully achieving the goals of the position.

Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of supervisory or management experience in a college or university student services environment.
  • Knowledge of principles of functional leadership, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Knowledge of interpreting and ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, Title 5, and other regulations related to the responsibilities of the position.
  • Ability to interpret data from the CCCCO and university partners.
  • At least 2 years of budget management experience, including development, maintenance, and administration of budgets to maximize financial resources.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • Experience with planning, development, and scheduling of Transfer Center events, activities, and workshops targeting student success and cultural diversity and awareness.
  • Ability to organize, plan, develop, and write new program goals, develop new concepts, analyze outcomes, and prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Experience working cooperatively with staff and faculty.
  • Ability to advocate for shared governance, collegiality, staff cohesiveness, and the core values of the institution.
  • Ability to direct and facilitate development of personal and team perspectives and deliver training programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership in meeting the needs of a diverse student population in areas such as curricula, learning activities, teaching/counseling practices, library services, literary efforts, or budgetary/planning processes.
  • Prior experience in approaching work and interactions with colleagues and/or students in an equity-minded manner.
  • Ability to provide an inclusive and welcoming work/educational environment.
  • Experience working with African Americans, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders, and other disproportionately impacted students and employees.

Skills

  • Knowledge of District organization, operations, policies, and objectives.
  • Knowledge of state education codes and requirements, including Title 5.
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.
  • Knowledge of record-keeping procedures and budget preparation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of appropriate software and databases.
  • Ability to interpret, apply, and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Special Requirements

  • The award of all degrees must be verifiable on a legible transcript. If the degree award date is not posted on the transcript, the application will be deemed incomplete.
  • All degrees and coursework used to satisfy minimum qualifications must be from accredited post-secondary institutions.
  • Finalists may be required to provide unofficial transcripts prior to employment.

Working Conditions

  • Office environment subject to constant interruptions and frequent interaction with others.
  • Sitting for long periods (up to 2–3 hours).
  • May require off-site duties and activities.

Pay

$120,703 – $152,142 annually

Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
  • Flexibility, including evenings and weekends, may be required to meet department needs.
  • District employees may apply for the Flexible/Hybrid Work Program, working a hybrid schedule of remote work and in-person each week. Approval and number of in-person days may vary by position/department.
