DIRECTOR-TOTAL REWARDS
About the Role
The Director of Total Rewards is responsible for the strategy, design, implementation, and ongoing administration of compensation, benefits, and retirement programs. This role serves as a senior subject matter expert and operational leader across all Total Rewards programs, ensuring offerings are competitive, compliant, financially sustainable, and aligned with organizational strategy. This is a highly hands-on leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, project management capability, and the ability to execute complex initiatives in a dynamic healthcare environment. Reporting to the Vice President of Total Rewards, this role is a critical partner in advancing the human capital strategy in collaboration with the HR leadership team across the healthcare system.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement total rewards strategies, including compensation, benefits, and retirement programs.
- Ensure programs are competitive, compliant, and financially sustainable.
- Lead the design, execution, and administration of total rewards initiatives.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on ERISA, DOL, IRS, and other federal and state regulations.
- Oversee retirement plan audits, nondiscrimination testing, and Form 5500 filings.
- Manage projects related to job architecture, cloud-based HRIS, total rewards portals, benefit admin portals, wellness programs, and other innovative offerings.
- Collaborate with HR leadership to advance human capital strategy.
- Handle highly confidential HR information professionally.
- Engage in crucial conversations with all levels of management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 7–10 years of experience in total rewards, compensation, benefits, retirement administration, or HR shared services.
- At least 5 years in a leadership role within a large, self-insured organization.
- Previous experience in a healthcare environment strongly preferred, with a focus on compensation and/or benefits.
- Experience with project management related to HRIS, total rewards portals, and benefit administration platforms.
Skills
- Expertise in ERISA, DOL, IRS, and other federal/state regulations.
- Knowledge of compensation management and total rewards strategic frameworks.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in PayScale, Infor Lawson, ADP, bSwift, HR Service Now, and other HRIS/benefits administration platforms.
- Advanced skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Certifications such as CEBS, CCP, SHRM-SCP, or SPHR are preferred.
