Director, Technical Revenue Accounting
About the role
The Director of Technical Revenue Accounting serves as the primary accounting partner to the global Sales organization. This role involves strategic deal structuring, commercial enablement, deal governance, operational execution, process optimization, risk mitigation, and leadership.
Responsibilities
Strategic Deal Structuring: Partner with Sales, Legal, FP&A, and Sales Operations during active deal cycles to structure high-value, non-standard contracts that optimize revenue outcomes.
Commercial Enablement: Act as the primary technical revenue advisor to the Deals Desk, providing real-time, actionable recommendations on complex commercial terms, pricing models, and bundling.
Deal Governance: Evaluate non-routine revenue transactions during active negotiations to identify accounting implications under ASC 606 upfront to prevent downstream bottlenecks.
Operational Execution: Translate complex, negotiated contract terms into operational reality, ensuring a seamless handoff from deal signature to the monthly revenue close cycle.
Process Optimization: Drive cross-functional projects aimed at streamlining the deal review lifecycle, reducing sales cycle friction, and improving overall quote-to-cash efficiency.
Risk Mitigation: Maintain financial integrity by ensuring all non-standard commercial arrangements comply with revenue recognition policies and SOX 404 key controls.
Executive Communication: Simplify highly complex revenue structures into clear, commercial logic for Sales leadership and executive stakeholders to support strategic decision-making.
Leadership: Provide visionary leadership and mentor team members, cultivating a high-performance environment that encourages continuous learning and professional growth.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of related financial experience, with at least 6 years focused on revenue accounting and commercial deal advisory.
Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated track record of directly influencing and structuring complex, multi-element B2B hardware/software/SaaS agreements.
Agility & Drive: Strong organizational and negotiation skills, with the proven ability to manage competing high-priority deals in a fast-paced, high-growth global environment.
Tools: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets), with a high comfort level utilizing advanced AI and productivity tools (e.g., Gemini, NotebookLM).
Leadership: Experience leading and scaling global teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
Domain Expertise: Deep understanding of ASC 606 revenue recognition standards applied practically to commercial sales environments.
Systems: Hands-on experience with Salesforce (SFDC), SAP, or modern CPQ (Configure, Price, Quote) and billing systems.
Communication: Exceptional relationship-building skills with a proven ability to challenge, influence, and collaborate effectively with fast-moving Sales teams.
Compensation
The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. For candidates who receive an offer at the posted level, the starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be the annual range listed below.
